D. Harvey Lee was awarded $2,000 to help launch Tidy Floss—a dental floss designed for people with braces. A recent graduate of La Sierra’s MBA program and a practicing dentist, Lee obtained a patent, found a manufacturer, and lined up customers to purchase his product. His new company is one of the first to use the school’s “start-up garages”—incubators that offer office space and business resources.
Among five other winners were Jimmy Wilhelm for a center in India that provides American-style training, and Josh Lu for an exchange program that connects doctors, dentists, and other professionals who want to volunteer in Africa.
