Music is the Soul’s Own Speech

The 30 select singers who make up the La Sierra Chamber Singers share their musical talents not only with the university community, but with thousands of others each year. They tour throughout the U.S. and internationally, sharing sacred music of many genres, including classical, spirituals, and hymns. In the past several years, they have performed with the Riverside County Philharmonic, in churches and concert halls throughout the Southern California, the Midwest, and many European countries.

Senior Art Show

Adaiah Thompson and Katie Pershing were two of the art majors featured in senior art showcases this past fall. Adaiah’s show—“Broken & Whole”—featured a line of high-fashion gowns made entirely from newspaper. Katie’s show—“An Ode to the Troublemakers, the Brazen and the Bold”—drew upon her grandmother’s life growing up in Lowell, Nebraska during the 1930s and 40s and included books, prints, paintings, and balsa wood meadow larks.

First Service

At 8p.m. every Friday evening, you’ll find hundreds of La Sierra students in the sanctuary of the La Sierra University Church. Why? Because they’re taking part in the popular campus worship First Service. Things are kept pretty simple at First Service. It’s a time for the community to come together and engage in praise and worship with lots of student lead music and programming as well as entertaining, thought-provoking speakers.

Renaissance Year

During his year-long study abroad experience in Italy, recent La Sierra graduate Jonathan Soto studied Italian and took other general education courses at Villa Aurora, a university in Florence. Highlights of his year abroad included embracing the Italian culture, speaking Italian, and seeing his favorite soccer team—Internazionale Milano—play twice. He continues to create “delicioso” Italian cuisine with the cooking skills he picked up with in Florence.

You’ll never be board at La Sierra. There are over 70 music groups, athletics team, club and organization to choose from. Approximately 140 La Sierra students compete on our Golden Eagles teams. Our clubs and organizations range from academically oriented to special interest to culturally connected. There’s something for everyone—and most of the time multiple somethings!
