Some students call it the most laid-back, stress-free class they’ve ever taken. But Professor Andress’ humor therapy class is not just a lot of joke-telling. Andress developed the class after returning from 10 years of mission service overseas, post-9/11, when he was struggling to adjust to the new America. “It’s a structured approach to learning how to find less stress in the mess,” he says, “and how to maintain a sense of joy when everything is crashing down around you.”

66th Annual Christmas Concert

This past December, the The La Sierra University Church shimmered with music, voices, and stories full of the wonder of Christmas. Both the University Chamber Singers and University Chorale and the University Orchestra performed. A special performance of the Christmas Story According to St. Luke, by Roger Wagner, was narrated by John de Lancie, an award-winning actor, director, and writer.

Rise of the Women’s Volleyball Team

The Golden Eagle Volleyball team is showing what successful teamwork can achieve both on and off the court again this year. They are racking up an impressive winning record and showing great promise for playoff action, and doing great things to promote great causes. In October they hosted the “Dig for a Cure” breast cancer awareness event at their game against Menlo College. They also hosted faculty appreciation night during their match against Cal State San Marcos a few nights later.

Surf + Snowboarding

Feeling like sand or snow today? At La Sierra, you have the option of both! Our SoCal location gives students easy and close access to outdoor fun. Take, for instance, snowboarding. Students can take a .5 credit course, which begins instruction on an on-campus skip ramp. Then, class moves to the real powder at nearby Mount High Resort. Students can also take classes in rock climbing, scuba diving and kayaking. Or, they can just hop in a car to enjoy the day at one of the famous Southern California beaches just miles away.
